Asking for Help: A Guide for Small Biz Owners

on Nov 4, 2021 9:00:00 AM By | Deanna Singh | 0 Comments | Hiring Skills Plan Self-Care Networking Business Hustle
If you’re like many Purposeful Hustlers, you’re an independent go-getter who isn’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and do whatever needs to be done. You take pride in your work ethic, and you’re dedicated to following through with your commitments. These are all excellent qualities to have, and they will take you far in your endeavors, BUT your rugged independence could occasionally have negative effects. Pushing yourself is one thing; pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion is an entirely different story. Additionally, there are some situations where—even though you may hate to admit it—you’re simply not an expert. You can’t know everything about every topic. If you’re trying to be your own website designer, marketer, IT manager, and accountant (in addition to running your business, founding a program, or whatever your “hustle” might be), you’re bound to run into areas that are simply beyond your expertise. And that’s okay! It’s fine to admit when you need help. In fact, it takes a good deal of courage to be vulnerable and humble enough to acknowledge when you’ve reached your limit. Dare to seek help when:   You’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed.   You’re having trouble keeping track of your various projects.   You’re facing an issue that is beyond your area of expertise.   You’re struggling to focus on your main mission.   Your mental, physical, or emotional health is beginning to suffer.   Your relationships are being negatively affected by your workload. Even if you know it’s time to ask for assistance, it’s a whole other thing to ask for it. You might feel embarrassed at the prospect of asking for help. You might feel like you’ve failed in some way if you need to turn to others for support. Or, you might assume that others are too busy to help or uninterested in lending support. Alternatively, you may assume that it’s too expensive to hire someone to assist you. All these roadblocks can prevent you from reaching out and asking for help when you require it. If you’re grappling with some of these roadblocks, try following these four steps:

When the fear monster rears its head, do this.

on Aug 19, 2021 4:46:07 PM By | Deanna Singh | 0 Comments | Reflection Self-Care Fear
Life is so beautiful and precious; even more so if you are living a life filled with happiness, peace, and contribution! However, many people (me included!!!) have had moments of uncertainty and fear where they’re at a standstill. In those moments, the “problems” are magnified and feel like a ton of bricks on your shoulders. The flashing thoughts of the worst-case scenarios plague your mind and making a decision seems daunting, to say the least. In those moments where we struggle, it all boils down to what you focus on. I've come across those fears in the past, where uncertainty made me worry more than anything else. In the earlier stages of my career, I had the daunting task of resigning from a job that I loved, which meant leaving peers that I felt connected with, and walking away from the majority of my family’s income and a prestigious title. It was a necessary move for me at the time. The direction the company was headed in was out of alignment with my purpose. But I was scared. It wasn’t until I did these three things to address my fears that I was able to make a purposeful shift:

Does it matter the speed we’re going if we don’t know where the final destination is? Socrates famously said, “The unexamined life is not worth living” and this has proven to be true in a fast-paced world filled with distractions and detours. How then do you align your thoughts and decisions to a life of purpose? The answer is self-reflection.

Self-care for purposeful hustlers

on May 3, 2021 6:45:00 AM By | Deanna Singh | 0 Comments | Purpose Skills Life Plan Self-Care
These days, we hear the word “self-care” tossed around a lot. It’s used in so many different ways and has become a buzzword to sell products ranging from face masks to yoga classes. It’s used so much that it can almost feel like another form of stress. We might get caught thinking, “I have so much going on already, and now I need to worry about self-care too!” But whether we like it or not, taking good care of ourselves is essential. We need to be a friend to ourselves. Especially as Purposeful Hustlers, in order to live into our purpose, we need to be able to be the best versions of ourselves. We need to know what we need to stay healthy, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Our wellbeing is SO IMPORTANT.

What are you afraid of - the process or the results?

on May 21, 2019 2:00:00 PM By | Deanna Singh | 0 Comments | Life Plan Career Wisdom Reflection Self-Care
Over time — in my own experience and through others’ stories that they’ve shared with me — I’ve realized that it’s much easier to be excited about the potential results of our actions than it is to feel excited about the process required to make them happen. A lot of times, the process is actually really scary.

How to deal with naysayers

on May 7, 2019 9:45:00 AM By | Deanna Singh | 0 Comments | Skills Life Social Change Career Self-Care
Most things worth doing involve some kind of risk. Especially when we pursue projects that we care deeply about, it can feel a little scary to put ourselves out there like that. It is not unusual for Purposeful Hustlers to find themselves going against the grain to make a positive impact, but that doesn’t make it easy. Acting unconventionally can stir up self-doubt and attract the attention of others, not always in a good way. Many of the people who may question or express doubt don’t mean to do harm, but that doesn’t mean that their criticism is always productive.

Reach into your roots

on Apr 23, 2019 10:22:54 AM By | Deanna Singh | 0 Comments | Purpose Passion Initiative Family Self-Care
When considering what your unique purpose is in the world, it’s essential to reach into your roots. Only YOU have lived YOUR story. Where you have come from has made you who you are, and in many ways, has positioned you to pursue a purpose that is meant for you. Before you look forward boldly into your Purposeful Hustle, one of my biggest pieces of advice is to look back. You may be surprised what you learn about yourself that helps you articulate what you think your purpose is. You may realize you have special skill sets or insights that have specifically prepared you to make the impact you want to have in the world.

Aiming for 80%

on Mar 12, 2019 9:45:00 AM By | Deanna Singh | 0 Comments | Purpose Skills Life Plan Family Wisdom Self-Care
Have you ever heard of the 80/20 rule? It’s called the Pareto principle, and it states that roughly 80 percent of the effects come from 20 percent of the causes. This could be for anything: 80 percent of sales come from 20 percent of the customers, 80 percent of injuries are caused by 20 percent of hazards, 80 percent of points are scored by 20 percent of players on a team. You get the picture. The point is that a small concentration of energy, resources, talent or some other quality can create an immense impact.
