INSPIRATION TO HELP YOU... LIVE WITH MORE PURPOSE

Your Purpose in 15 Minutes

Our purpose doesn’t always show up for us at the most convenient times. But then again, with how busy we are, when would be a convenient time? Do we ever really have time to drop everything and spend all of our time doing directly purpose-related work? For many of us, the answer is no. Those moments of vibrancy, instances of inspiration when we feel pulled into purpose-related work often come in the midst of the chaos of our lives.

The good news is that a Purposeful Hustler can find time to work toward their purpose while still maintaining all of their daily responsibilities. It just takes a little bit of hustle.

If you have a lot going on in your day to day but still feel called to do more for your purpose, here are some tips for making meaningful progress in only 15 minutes a day. You got this!

How can I find 15 extra minutes?

Think about a time that you have every day that you could build into your schedule. Where could you consistently set aside 15 minutes? Then, every day, you know that this is your purpose time. Having a set time can help you build a habit and can help you hold yourself accountable. Some good times could be:

  • Right after wake up -- start your day off with some hustle!

  • Get to work 15 minutes early -- use the first 15 minutes of your workday for your own purpose work. Being intentional with setting aside time, even while in your office, can make a huge difference.

  • Stay 15 minutes late after work -- when the office is quieter can be an awesome time to hustle!

  • Take 15 minutes out of your lunch hour -- in the middle of your day, can you take 15 minutes before or after you eat your salad to do some purpose work?

What do I do with only 15 minutes?

You’d be surprised with what you can get done in 15 really intentional, well-used minutes. The most important part is consistency. If you work for 15 minutes every day, you will see progress happening, even if in small doses!

  • Make a list -- Write down everything you know you need to do/get to make this part of your purpose a reality

  • Google something or read an article -- Spending 15 minutes educating yourself on the issue you’re passionate about or doing background research about your purpose will make your hustle that much better

  • Make a phone call -- Make tangible contact with someone you need to connect with to make your project happen. Trust me, it will feel so good!

  • Break down bigger tasks into pieces -- Some things feel way too daunting to take on in 15 minutes. And it’s true, there are a lot of tasks that will take you longer than that. But, can you break these monster tasks down into a bunch of mini-tasks? Nothing is too small or insignificant when you can connect it to how it will help you accomplish this bigger project.

  • Write down all the questions you have -- A project will seem much less intimidating when you confront all of the things you don’t know, need to learn about, or questions you need to answer in order to accomplish it well. Putting these fears, insecurities, and unknowns into writing will make it possible for you to address them and answer them, getting you closer to your purpose!

What does this look like in practice? I need an example!

Accomplishing mini-tasks could look something like this:

  • Today, I’m going to make a list of five places I think could be good resources.

  • Tomorrow, I’ll find their phone numbers.

  • The next day, I’ll call them.

  • The next day, I’ll respond to the calls.

  • The next day, I’ll look up how much this service typically costs.

  • Etc.

Be kind to yourself!

It’s important to always be kind to and gentle with yourself. There will be days, as we know, that even 15 minutes won’t be feasible. And on the other hand, there will be days when we get so into our Purposeful Hustle that 15 minutes will turn into 4 hours before we even notice. That’s okay! While consistency is the goal, we’re humans with limits, and we have to cut ourselves some slack. Don’t get so frustrated with yourself that you stop working toward your purpose. Tomorrow is another chance to try again to carve out the time! Make it happen. You got this.

We know that new habits form if you do something consistently for 30 days. Is there a way you can commit to this practice of 15 minutes a day for the next 30 days? You’ll blow yourself away by how much closer you’ll feel to your purpose.
