INSPIRATION TO HELP YOU... LIVE WITH MORE PURPOSE

How do you know if your Purpose is right for you?

One of the things that you can do after you write your purpose statement is to test it out. There are a lot of different ways that you can test it, but in the Purposeful Hustle, I talk about four concrete ways. We will not get into all of the details here, but let me give you a high-level overview of what this looks like.

check your intuition

The first is to check it with your intuition! When you read your purpose statement, it should bring you joy. You should be excited about it. Your purpose statement should be something that gets you out of bed in the morning and makes you want to start your day!

support network

The second thing you can use to test your purpose statement is to go around and ask people who are within your social network, does it sound like me? Do you recognize me in this Purpose statement? Does this seem like my Purpose is right, and what changes should I make? You can also ask them, what have I done in the past that supports this idea? The feedback that you get, especially from people that you love, is going to be awesome and very helpful for you as you’re testing out whether or not your purpose statement is on target!

calendar review

The third thing is to look at your calendar. Where have you been spending your time? Maybe you are in a situation where you do not have that much time to allocate towards your Purpose. So here you might want to think about making a new model schedule. If you were in complete control of your calendar (which you are, but that is another blog post), what would you be doing with your time? How would you be organizing it? Would your Purpose fit into the calendar you would choose? Your calendar is a reflection of what you're doing and what you value.

decision making

The last one is one of my favorite ways to test your Purpose. It is a technique that I use daily. What you want to do is think about a decision, either one that's upcoming or one that you've already had, and think about how you could use your purpose statement to make a good decision. One quick and easy way to do this is to look at your email. Look at the things that are being requested of you through a purpose lens. Can you tell me what you should say yes to and what you should pass on?

moving forward

You will continue to use these tests over time. It is helpful to learn how to do them and to repeat them every once in a while to make sure you are still on course!
